'Forgive' is not a word that was present in Oni's dictionary, he never forgave anyone, not even himself. People had to pay for what they did, even if Oni was wrong in what he thought
But... That was the right thing to do?
The fact of not forgiving was not free, although Oni was not aware of it, he hated more and more. Even if someone had done something 'bad' but insignificant, Oni could not forgive and when he could not make that person pay for what he did, the hatred inside him increased. Thus turning him into a hateful and angry person, who could not deal with frustration.
After years and years of this, Oni realized that something was wrong. Since he took the path of Aquamancy, he discovered that all that frustration was for nothing. To cast spells, he had to be calm and composed. Gradually he began to associate this with his life in general. This came to a peak when after fighting Atticus, Konrad and Raska to help Apollon, Apollon decided to hand them over to their respective nations instead of punishing them. Oni was unable to understand why he would do such a thing... But this time he thought that maybe he was the one who was wrong....
Oni concluded that the right person to talk about it was Apollon himself. He was the only person he had ever seen who had so much mercy, who was able to 'forgive' at that point. After listening to him, he really understood why he was like that, why he accumulated so much anger. He decided he had to try, at least once, so he turned to the person he hated the most, the one he wished dead... but why?
Melkor. Why did he hate him? He tried to attack him... but he never did him any harm... Melkor lied, but they were the lies of a father looking for an answer for his deceased daughter... Melkor threatened Oni's family, but he didn't even know he had daughters... When he wanted to make things right, Oni simply refused... Why? Because of the hatred
Forgive, but do not forget. That phrase is the one that Oni kept thinking about the most
Many years had passed since the incidents with Melkor. It was likely that Melkor was no longer even interested in apologizing to him or an apology from Oni. Besides, Oni knew he had nothing to apologize for either, but there was one thing that could close everything, listening to him. Which he didn't do when he should have, which took away the possibility of forgiveness.
Oni sent a letter, but no... He had to go himself. Oni approached Melkor, and listened to what he wanted to tell him that time. It was true, Melkor wanted to apologize, but Oni did not listen to him. Now it was too late, it was no use, neither Melkor nor Oni was interested in each other. Melkor was still the same after all, he was still saying similar things, things that Oni hated. Even if Oni had forgiven him at that moment, they could never be friends or close, it was and is impossible.
Oni is selfish, he was doing that for that reason. Melkor knew that, maybe that bothered him, but he still gave him the answer Oni wanted. Oni was satisfied with the answer, maybe he did not forgive anyone, but he understood that he had really made a mistake, if someone wanted to apologize he should listen to them...
Listen, forgive, but never forget.
