[!] A raven would fly to Ceril's Keep, leaving a letter to the Reichsmarshall. Do not metagame this information [!]
To The Most “Honourable” Richard Vianden
Your letter arrives with a veneer of authority, yet it fails to conceal the truth about the man behind the title. The insults and accusations you level began long before our first meeting - and, truthfully, they began with you, not me.
When I was first introduced to who you were, it was during a tournament where you were fighting my mother. I remember the thrill of watching her nearly best you in combat, despite your full brandish in armor and her fighting without. You were excited by your victory, reveling in the win, even as she nearly claimed it herself. However, that moment was more than just a victory for you, but a revelation of your character. This was not a man built of humble, modest humility but, a man who clothes himself thick in hostility and relishes in self gratification.
Every chance beyond that, you spoke with contempt towards my family. You have slandered my mother’s name - calling her a fool - and mocked our family as if our worth is measured by your own narrow standards. Showing your disdain for not just us, but all who come from the Hinterlands - whom you deem unworthy of your respect and by your words: “Should learn their place”.
I addressed your insult to her with civility and you answered with hostility, reaching your hand to your weapon in a fit of rage. Even babes are taught to think before they act; your behavior is unbecoming of a man who serves the crown.
Does a child who sees the corruption of your position and your viewpoint really strike so much fear in your heart that you seek to strike him down for standing between his loved ones and a threatening presence? It was your brother - whom I have trained under for a strong period of time - who ordered for me to leave. Where you then saw fit to call me a coward and insult my father who came before me.
Richard Vianden, you are not a righteous man. You use power, it seems, to make yourself feel invincible, yet beneath it all lies a man trembling at the edges of his one insecurities. The True Recreant of Hadriana, threatened by anyone who challenges your viewpoint and stands up to your indiscretion. You stand strong because you serve a throne that can back you with armies and law. Yet I stand just as firmly in my own resolve, for I know I stand for justice, honor, and equality.
This dispute has dragged on long enough and pulled the crown and the good citizens of Hadriana away from their own important matters. I hold my stance as strongly as before and implore you: Let us settle this matter as it is. Man to man. Not citizens against the crown. I officially challenge you, Richard Vianden, to a duel. Mark the date and the time and let us see whose courage and honour is stronger and resolve this. Let the duel be the decider.
Respectfully,
To The Most “Honourable” Richard Vianden
