The Battle of the Black Obelisk

A chill wind plagued the now-darkened desert plains around the Black Obelisk as Mordazan the emissary prepared his grand ritual to summon his master, the lord of bones. Hordes of ghoulish, ghastly, and unliving creatures rushed to the site to witness the summoning of their reborn master.
Yet they were not the only ones that prepared to come to the Black Pyramid that day...

A united army of the living led by Aeri'cill A'mos Zaithrall of the Enlightened Kingdom of Luminion, Kaiser Philipp II von Lichtenfelts of the Hadrian Empire, and Sultana Zoe Nobara of the Empire of Anjyarr marched together to stop the reign of terror that was sure to come by the Bone Lord's summoning before it had even started. They came supported by the forces of smaller companies like the brave warriors of the Guards of the Faithfull and the fierce warriors of the Northern Town of Avalheim.

As the armies of order approached the ritual site in a tight formation they were greeted by Mordazan himself as he prepared to conduct the last phase of the ritual.
The grand emissary welcomed all and invited them to stand back and bare witness to the summoning as he rose his staff to the obelisk to start the ritual, shooting out a green beam that shot far up into the sky, opening a portal that came forth from the bridge of souls.

As this happened Kaiser Philip ordered a charge from the center to disrupt the ritual, this then was supported by a flanking maneuver led by Cinna’Vanaris Fynenar and the forces of Anjyarr. This was met with a horde of ghouls that came down from the spire as a thundering horde to crush the armies of order. This Ghoulish and Skeletal force was led by three Gravekeeper Ghoul Kings that did all in their power to keep on summoning more minions to throw at the enemy. The armies of the dead had only one goal, to hold out for long enough so that Mordazan could finish his ritual.

The armies clashed on the black fields in front of the Black Obelisk right in front of the ritual site. The forces of order cut down an entire army's worth of the undead, yet the sheer numbers of ghouls, blackened Skeletons, and wraiths also took a heavy toll on the armies of order as they too slayed many and ate their flesh on the battlefield in front of their still-living comrades. As the battle raged on, whispers started to appear in the ears of the living, demanding that they pledged themselves to the Lord of Bones and their unliving armies in exchange for great power. Between the phases of the combat, an opening was created for those willing to pledge themselves to the Lord of Bones to step into the dark field that surrounded the ritual site. A small number of mortals gave in to these temptations and stepped into the field, forming the first small mortal warband of the Lord of Bones.

After almost a full day of constant battle, the summoning ritual neared completion. The forces of order became more and more exhausted, yet the army of unlife was also shrinking at a rapid pace. All three of the Ghoulish kings were defeated on the battlefield and the dark skeletons that claimed so many lives were brought to their knees and destroyed as well. Yet it appeared to be too late. As the army of order once again marched on the Obelisk, a shriek was heard as a giant green misty cloud made its way from the now-open bridge of souls. It manically laughed and took on the shape of a skull as it reformed in the sky above the battlefield. It would soon drift on northwards as the portal once again started to close. Mordazan too underwent a transformation as the lifeless corpse his spirit puppeted suddenly collapsed and from its ashes, the true form of Mordazan appeared in the form of a hulking skeletal construct that too started to retreat from the ritual site with his new disciples as the last of the ghouls fought off the armies of the living to cover their retreat.

And then, silence.
The Obelisk lies dorment.
He is now on mortal soil.
All hail the great king of unlife.
All hail to Alkadizar, The Lord of Bones.
