MISSION
The mission of the Vianden Retinue is to act as the standing armed retinue in service to Richard Vianden, Markgraf of Veronia and the House of Vianden. Ensuring the safety and security of their liege, the Margravial family, and his esteemed guests. Furthermore the Vianden Retinue is tasked with ensuring the safety and security of all denizens within the lands of Veronia. To enforce the laws and values of the Hadrian Empire onto those that reside under our banner. Patrolling regularly in different time intervals within our lands and borders to ensure the safety of our land and people. Lastly training regularly to enhance in different weaponry.
RANKS
STAFF OFFICERS
Lord Marshal
The Lord Marshal is appointed by The Markgraf of Veronia and is charged with carrying out His Lordship's orders.
Constable
The Constable is subordinate to the Lord Marshal and appointed by The Markgraf of Veronia by recommendation of the Lord Marshal. He is charged with maintaining and training the retinue's ranks, and to be certain that the ranks are prepared to be mobilised to defend the Markgrafdom's borders.
OFFICERS
Captain
Captain's are the highest rank before obtaining the rank of a staff officer. A captain is both reliable in combat and leadership. They manage ensigns and enlisted soldiers, acting as an extension for the staff officers. The soldiers command respect, most of which is earned with their fine service within the retinue rather than the rank.
Ensign
Ensigns are the lowest rank within the officer corps. They have proven themselves to be undeniable dependable leaders. They think critically and intelligently, having all factors accounted for when making thorough decisions.
ENLISTED
Sergeant
Sergeants are the highest ranking soldiers within the enlisted ranks. They have honed both their combat and leadership skills throughout their years of service. They are tasked with commanding the lower ranks and follow orders from their superiors without question or hesitation.
Master-at-Arms
Master-at-arms are often the most reliable and seasoned soldiers within the Vianden Retinue and are recognised for their exemplary combat skills. They have proven to be battle tested and fierce formidable warriors.
Man-at-Arms
Men-at-arms are considered the tip of the spear for the Vianden Retinue. These brave infantrymen have proven themselves capable in the field and at following orders when given. They have been proven to be loyal at carrying out orders with impunity.
Footman
Footmen serve the bulk of the Vianden Retinue's force. They have proven themselves worthy, as fully fledged soldiers and have begun their long path of service to His Lordship.
Recruit
Recruits are soldiers who have yet to prove themselves. It is during their time as a recruit that they are trained and put to the test to enhance their skills before finally being promoted to the rank of footman.

TRADITIONS
The Chevauchée
The chevauchée, also known as scorched earth, is a much loved method used by the Vianden Retinue to weaken the enemy forces. By which the Vianden Retinue burns and pillages enemy territory in order to destabilise the region and disrupt the supply chain of the enemy forces. Not only used to decimate enemy land but also a way to force enemy forces to come to and fight against the Retinue.
THE VIANDEN OATH
"I swear by almighty Alder that I will be faithful, and bear true allegiance to the Honourable, Richard Vianden, Markgraf of Veronia, his heirs and successors, and that I will as in duty bound, honestly and faithfully defend His Lordship, his heirs and successors in person, crown and dignity, against all enemies, and will observe and obey all orders of the Honourable Markgraf, his heirs, successors and the generals and officers set over me"
MILITARY HONOURS & MEDALS
The Alder Star
The Alder Cross is the highest military honour that a soldier can be awarded for the most conspicuous bravery, act of valour or sacrifice in the presence of an enemy within the Vianden Retinue.
The Ricardian Cross
The Ricardian Cross is a gallantry award to be given out in recognition of exemplary gallantry during times of war.
Meritorious Service Medal
The Meritorious Service Medal is awarded to members of the Retinue for long and meritorious service. To be eligible for the MSM medal, the individual must have good, faithful, valuable and meritorious service with at least twenty years service and have reached the rank of sergeant as well as already holding the long service medal.
Long Service Medal
The Long Service Medal is awarded to members of the Retinue in recognition of long service. To be eligible for the LSM, the soldier must have served at least fifteen years of reckonable service.
Enlistment to the Retinue
The Vianden Retinue has few requirements to join up in our ranks, those being willingness to join, at least sixteen years of age, in a fair physical and mental condition, be of good character, and residing or planning to reside in the Markgrafdom of Veronia.
