[!] Shrouded in a black robe, a mysterious figure would silently pin a cryptic pamphlet to the notice board of various settlements around the Hadrian Empire. Whispers of his bone-white skull mask and the enigmatic nine-pointed star hanging around his neck would circulate among those who encountered him. The pamphlets displayed on the noticeboard spreads as far as Mitrona and other regions of the continent of Eden through hear-ye sayers and merchants. [!]

To the citizens of the great Hadrian Empire and the rest of Eden,

With the absence of the Erzbishop of Veronia, Erzbishop Vasyl, the Clergy is unable to properly elect a new Vater to lead our Clergy forward in the ages to come. A choice must be made; it has been made. With the majority of the remaining clergy support, hereby I, Gottfried Fredric Von Wolfhard, Erzbishop of the province of Brandenhafen, Black Abbot, and Chaplain of the Cult of Mortius, take my position as Vater over the Temple of Alder, known as the faith of Alderism.

I hereby solemnly swear to serve the great Alder Himmelschwert, the Sentinels, and the Imperial realm. Let me be the voice of faith, a guide for those following the Light. My allegiance is to the people, Alder and Kaiser. I shall continue refining the faith, mending the damage done over years of stagnation and fracturing during the Peasant Revolt of Flüssland. Under my reign as Vater, a servant of Mortius, I shall bring back the pious devotion we once had, battling those we deem the enemies of Alder and the Order of Enlightenment again with religious fervor. No stone shall be left untouched; our word shall be heard, and our faith shall remain standing. Let it be known across the continent, for it is our faith that has protected humanity against the coming darkness of the Order of Chaos.

As my first act as Vater, I bring forth Brüder Raymond, Custodian of the Mortius Cult, to become Chaplain and representative of the Cult while I am in the position of Vater. He has proven to be a worthy servant to Alder, to the Sentinel of Death, and to be loyal in both faith and service to the realm and the Order of Enlightenment. May those look up to him as an example of zeal, pride, devotion, and loyalty.

As Vater, I have a message for those who believe in our faith and believe in Alder but who have begun to waver in devotion:

To every child of the Order of Enlightenment reading this: Hold fast against the darkness. Let your strength be a flicker of hope in the storm that is the Void, like a shining star that glistens through the abyss.
You will not hold alone forever; soon, others will see your strength and rally around you, and together, you will send evil reeling back into the underworld from which it came.
So hold fast, people of the realm, warriors of the greater Pre-Determination. Alder sees you and will not let a Fighter like you go alone into that dark night. He will be with you, even when all seems to be the most lost.

Faith conquers all! All will unfold as the Beneficent Oracle wills.

Signed,
Vater Gottfried Fredric Von Wolfhard,
Erzbishop of Brandenhafen,
Black Abbot of the Schwarze Abtei of the Cult of Mortius ✠

Meridy blinks as they stumble upon the message as they travel through Adelsburg on their way back to Al-Jabrid. Did they put that lying bastard in charge of their faith? Really? Their eyes narrow as they read through the extravagant declarations of faith and importance. They were fairly certain the bit about the Hadrians being humanity's saviors was bullshit, considering that much of what they'd done was more conquering than saving. For a moment, they consider ripping the whole damn message down or at least adding a very crude note to the bottom. In the end though, as they read the final lines, they choose to let it be.
If they wanted to put themselves on a pedestal, above everyone else, so be it. The higher they place themselves would be the higher from which they would fall.

"May the rot take your soul with it, Vater," they mutter under their breath.

They turn, continuing their walk back to the city that had almost become a home.
