In the distance, a lamb draws her last breath. Born underdeveloped, it had no real chance at the cycle of life. Her legs weren’t long enough to walk without causing joint pain. The eyes were clouded to signify its blindness. A sad life she would’ve lived if she simply had determination. Her mother would not have that, though.

“It in thi way es tayne.”

The year is 1545. The month is Starfall.

The red tiefling opens her eyes abruptly and shoots up in her bed. Another night terror. Thick beads of sweat fall down her forehead. Her nimble hands wipe it off with the tips of her fingers. A deep breath in, a deeper breath out. Elaine looks panicked for the time being– completely lost. It’s hard for her to calm herself when she’s still getting used to this constant aching feeling. A palm lays on her stomach after. Her eyes close for a moment as she stays sitting up in the crimson-red blankets.

Elaine’s face suddenly turns sour. “Dammit,” She states hurriedly. The woman quickly gets up and stumbles towards the bathroom. Kneeling, she hurls, not quite making it to the next room. The sound is visceral– truly. The Khari’cerr thanked Kharash no one was around at this time. Adriel-Elias is currently being babysat to help Elaine’s “speedy recovery”. As she thinks of these facts, Elaine coughs in between the revolting sounds of the substance hitting the floor. Suffering alone. It’s what she wanted at the very least. The only thing keeping her sane. No other sounds within the palace. Just her.

Catching her breath, she slowly stands up with the wall to support her weight. “It’s all catching up to me, isn’t it?” Elaine utters out. Almost as if she had to be in a whisper. When she finally stares into her mirror, Elaine fixes her hair. She wipes the remaining sweat off her forehead and gets ready for the day.
