THE IMPERIAL GUARDSMEN

WITH DIGNITY AND BULWARK

In a world whose history is ridden with blood and dishonour, flourishing with wars and bloodshed, the Imperial Guardsmen stood tall and firm, performing their duties to the highest level, serving their Emperor and Empire proudly.

In the bygone days of the past, it was left to the Lords of their respective lands to raise men and arms when called upon by the Emperors of old, bringing varied success and failures alike, even battles won seemed more like defeat rather then victory, after years of internal and national turmoil and escapades, it was decided that change was deeply required, and at the order of General Edward and his liege, the creation of an organised and standing army would be created and thus it was created - The Imperial Guardsmen.

TO STAND FIRM IN THE FACE OF ADVERSITY
___________________________________________________

A scorched battlefield is littered with the dead and dying; hundreds of tangled bodies strewn across the field with horses among them. So thick and twisted are the vines, that they carpet the sodden earth. A deformed mass. Bloody, black and brown. Two men walked through the field. Broad shouldered. Their clothing leather and chain mail. They walked laboured. They continue on in this fashion, casually roaming the destroyed bodies and giving those still moving their silence. Around them, across the field, others pore over the bodies, pilfering valuables or taking the not-fatally wounded hostage. The men turn. His scarred face, young but lined, is paired by hissad, soulful eyes. Despite being a clear victor here, their looks only show one of displeasure, agitation, and darkness.

The Emperor would have paused, scouring the lands around them as his gaze saw one of a solemn look, though his gaze remained stoic, it was clear his expression spoke not of the complete story.

“Your Imperial Majesty,” A messenger would approach the two, it had seemed numbers of the casualties would have been drawn up, much to the dismay of the Pharaoh who seemed to only despise the look of such.

“We were fortunate to have emerged as victors.. With our unfathomable losses.” The comment of the vexed individual, the Emperor's General, would state sourly.

Much to the dismay of the present Emperor, he couldn’t help but agree with the words of the General, letting out a soft sigh, he would toss away the piece of parchment handed to him, “Then I shall summon all of our retinues to Aldehsburg, there we shall discuss the increase of men.” The Emperor would state, subtle as he looked to the General for affirmation.

“No Your Imperial Majesty, we needn’t need a pointless meeting to take our time, we shall get nowhere.” The General would retort, swiftly and firmly as he spoke, “We need more than retinues of men who do not work with each other and bicker at every order not militias or armed retinues - we require a core of Guardsmen.”

RANKS AND DUTIES

RANKS OF HIGH COMMAND
Picked for their merit, skills in leadership, and experience, these men are encumbered with responsibilities with the lives of the men that serve them and with the drawing up of plans for the Emperor.

THE CROWN
The Guardsmen serve the Empire of Hadriana, and it is the Crown - the reigning Emperor - that leads the Empire. The legitimacy of the Guardsmen, as do all other institutions, as the sole army of the realm derives from the Crown, and so they are the highest authority - they are the Grand Musir. For time immemorial, however, the Crown has delegated direct command of its army to the General, the complete authority resting within the General themselves.

THE GENERAL
The greatest appointed military rank in the Empire is the General, who the Crown entrusts with the greatest of responsibility to lead the Guardsmen in defence of the Empire and its honour. The General, therefore, oversees the entirety of the Guardsmen. It is they who select the Officers, it is they who dictate strategy.

THE CAPTAIN
Second only to the Emir in appointed command is the Captain. As they serve at the pleasure of the General, the Captain is their right-hand-soldier entrusted to assist the General with their great burden as leader of the Guardsmen. It falls to the Captain to undertake tasks which the General cannot attend to personally, oversee and train the younger Officers, and train and lead the Guardsmen in combat.

THE COMMANDERS
The Commander are a rank of command that lead their own regiment and battalions, each of the two Commanders are in charge of the men in their regiment that is designated to them by the General, they are tasked with the drilling and and organisation of their men under their command.

RANKS OF FOOT
The cornerstone and base of the Janissaries; the defenders of the Kingdom’s frontiers; the protectors of Zavaran lands.

THE SERGEANT
A Sergeant is a former Private who has proved themself to be capable of surviving the consistent combat encounters that each member faces, and has shown they can lead their fellow soldiers into battle. They care for their soldiers under them, they were once men of the equal rank and are given their title of Sergeant for their love of their comrades, and their leadership abilities to protect them. The Private's may be the backbone of the Guardsmen, but the Sergeant are the muscles that make it move.

THE PRIVATE
The Private of the Guardsmen are the rank and standard linesmen who see battle, and enforce the law of the Hadrian Empire. The standard Private holds little to no power in the overall goings-on of the Guardsmen. However, do not take it to mean that the standard Private is of no importance, they make the backbone of the Guardsmen.

THE INITIATE
Those who come seeking to join the ranks of the Guardsmen are enlisted as Initiates, who are yet untrained and untested. Initiates are given no formal responsibilities, and instead are tasked with training until they triumph in their Oath Hunt to become a Private.
