[A Cleric's Musings] Salvor

"Why did we dismount? You walk so slowly, old man." A young woman turned to her traveling companion and held her torch high to illuminate the worn path of dirt and gravel. The dull light also shone upon her fair, light-skinned complexion, revealing her face etched with the weariness of the journey. Dark brown waves of hair fell down her shoulders, framing a face smudged with specks of dirt that mirrored patches across her dress and shoes. Her eyes carried a determined glint despite the fatigue. As the torchlight flickered, casting shadows that danced upon her features, her elderly companion showed himself.

Cloaked in flowing dark robes that seemed to absorb the little light they had, the cleric moved with careful steps across the uneven path. Silver stars hung in regular intervals from the beaded necklace he wore and glimmered as he walked closer into the light. There were nine, not all could be seen as some fell beneath the cloak over his shoulder but there were undoubtedly nine. “Quiet yourself and have patience child, It is late and we would wake everyone we gallop past”. A cane in hand and the reins of his steed in the other, The cleric moved to join his companion and entered the town of Norburen.

I taught her of Salvor, of what I understood His teaching to be. I taught her in Norburen, where men have devoted themselves for generations in Honor and Duty to battle against enemies that would draw us to the rule of chaos.
To those who have found themselves to these humbling musings of an old Cleric, Alder guides us all.

In the teachings of Salvor, honor is not merely a lofty ideal but a guiding principle that reflects the very essence of Alder's wisdom. The principles of honor in war, as imparted by Salvor, are grounded in the belief that our actions should reflect the highest ideals of righteousness, even amidst the chaos of conflict.

  • Chivalry and Fair Play:
Salvor teaches us to uphold the principles of chivalry and fair play on the battlefield. We are called to face our adversaries with respect, offering a fair chance in combat. Striking from the shadows or employing deceitful means contradicts the essence of honorable conflict.
  • Protection of the Innocent:
Honor in war encompasses the protection of the innocent and the defenseless. We are tasked with safeguarding those who cannot defend themselves, ensuring that our actions do not cause undue harm to the vulnerable.
  • Preservation of Dignity:
Salvor encourages us to preserve the dignity of both ourselves and our adversaries. Engaging in acts of cruelty or inhumane conduct tarnishes the virtue of honor and strays from the path Alder has laid before us.
  • Respect for Surrender:
Surrender is a testament to acknowledging the righteousness of our cause. Salvor teaches us to respect the surrender of our foes, showing mercy and providing them an opportunity for redemption.

Our commitment to honorable conduct in war is not a sign of weakness, but rather a testament to the strength of our conviction and the righteousness of our cause. Choosing the path of honor in war aligns us with the greater pre-determination that Alder has unveiled to us. It reflects our commitment to the Ruling of Order and our understanding that victory achieved through deceit or cowardice is a hollow triumph that only leads to the perpetuation of chaos.

By embracing the principles of honor in war, we distinguish ourselves as champions of Alder's divine guidance. We demonstrate that even in the crucible of conflict, our actions are aligned with the enlightened path of Order. Let us, therefore, stand firm in our commitment to honor, knowing that through our righteous conduct, we contribute to the fulfillment of Alder's grand design.

May these words illuminate the path before you, and may the teachings of Salvor continue to guide you in all your endeavors.
May you read and follow along the prayer in your hearts.

Still yourself a moment … Gather your thoughts in prayer to Salvor … Seek His guidance in times of strife and conflict.

When enemies unveil themselves within and without. We who dedicate ourselves know we will find the strength to overcome them all. In thundering fields of battle or duels between metal and mettle may His presence be felt. May His watchful eye guide us through the chaos, steering our actions to the triumph of Order.
Let us heed His words, for all He asks of us in return is to act in Honor.
Resist the temptations of barbarism that Alder spent his mortal years uprooting from our people.
Let us remember that war, when fought with Honor and purpose, becomes a crucible that forges the strength of our character and the resilience of our faith.
Allow ourselves to be guided.
Allow ourselves to be seen.
May Salvor Bless us.
Alder guides us all.
