Hearken, ____________________
In ages long past, before the stars did guide us to the lands beneath the Brightest, we were exiled from our Home by the vile design of a Witch, whose name is best forgotten to history. With sweet whispers, temptations of eternal life and an unassailable empire, the Witch ensnared the mind of our Emperor, rendering he a mere puppet to her and Dolus’ whims. Our kin were taken – twisted into voidal monstrosities and their souls tormented into undying servitude. Only through Divine Retribution were we spared the fate that would inevitably follow such an accursed plague on the land. The city swallowed under a great flood, and our people driven to forge anew.
Now, as the Greater Predetermination guided us through stars, so does it again. The Sign of the Hornblower heralded our march and bestowed our victories against the new plague upon our once home in Magna Attia. And now, the Sign of the Rat, of rotting plagues, warns us of an impending sickness that is undoubtedly soon to seep within our great Empire.
Fortunately we are however, for we have found its Harbinger. Veredera von Lictenfelts.
Perhaps only now we might discern Dolus’ design for what it is. The disappearance of our once beloved Kaiserin Catherine von Lichtenfelts-Vahlen. The appointment of a nameless woman to one of most intimate positions by our grand Emperor. Then she would soon take the reins from He entirely.
Under her direction and ensnarement of our kind Kaiser Diedrick and the council, She has wrought:
- The Temple and its sacred cults stripped of influence and power, reducing its clerics and its keepers to mere prattling fools on the roadside, while dons the guise of the devout.
- Lady Ashlyn Moeutier exalted in power and remembrance, even after her fortuitous demise through Divine Retribution. We have long since uncovered her voidal nature as a Necromancer of the highest order yet were suppressed from acting due to Veredra’s protection.
- Machinations veiled as incompetence when the Voidal Mage Fenrir was released on conditions purportedly favorable to us yet no further voidals were ever captured, nor proper intelligence garnered. The Voidal mage roams free, still preying upon our lands. And our Witch Hunters remain in the dark, Veredra’s interrogations shrouded in secrecy, no notice of what was gained ever brought forward.
- Deceptions masked as ineptitude when I accompanied her and Once Erzbishop Kvothe (who hath forsaken the Temple) on an inquisition to the Rovelt Estate and I was ordered to stand guard outside while they searched the Manor within. Yet, when voidal artifacts were uncovered and seized, instead of acting, we were commanded to depart. This afforded the Rovelts ample time to gather their remnants and vacate at their leisure, leaving us under a constant threat. Only now do the threads intertwine: Kvothe, lover of Ashlyn, a wielder of void; Veredera, their close confidante; the Rovelts, granted clemency as she reaped their spoils.
- Stratagems masquerading as incompetence when she and her inner circle at court (including Lady Ashlyn) opposed my nephew Zladimir’s warnings of the bone lord threat and his resolve to march north to meet them. He was derided and dismissed.
- And Finally, Dealings with the Demon of Catamora, and of other voidals as my Nephew outlined in his declaration.
Now, as the stars once more guide our fate, we must stand vigilant against the encroaching darkness. We will not entreat with the forces of Chaos - a Fell blade is all they are deserving.
