Evalise paused in the hallway, her footsteps coming to a soft halt before a grand portrait adorning the wall stood in-front of her. The painting depicted her family, captured in a moment of timeless unity. Her gaze traced each familiar face with a bittersweet smile, memories flooding her mind like a gentle tide. Her brother, Zladimir's warm eyes, forever etched in the canvas, seemed to twinkle with a hint of mischief and wisdom. Her uncle Aleksander's strong presence, portrayed in resolute posture, exuded a quiet strength that had guided her through trials and triumphs alike. And there, nestled between them, were the rest of her siblings—each with their own unique essence captured in brushstrokes.
The hallway echoed with the distant murmur of history, the portrait a testament to enduring bonds forged over the many years. Evalise lingered a moment longer, as if imprinting the image into her soul, before she turned toward the balcony overlooking the corridor. Stepping gracefully across the wooden floor, she reached the balcony's edge. The corridor stretched before her, carrying echoes of laughter and whispered conversations that had once filled these halls.
With a final glance over her shoulder, Evalise let out a soft sigh, her gaze lingering on the portrait one last time before approaching her room. She paused at the threshold, a moment of reflection casting a serene shadow upon her visage. With a steady breath, she crossed the threshold into her sanctum, where memories mingled with the present. Her belongings awaited, scattered remnants of a life anchored to this place. Evalise then stepped to the window in her room, the cool breeze from the ocean gently tousling her hair. She gazed out at the expansive view, where the azure waves danced under the golden light of the sun. A soft sigh escaped her lips, carrying with it a mixture of tranquility and longing. The rhythmic sound of the surf echoed in the distance, a soothing melody that enveloped her in a moment of serene contemplation. "I have to do this, I have to go." The young woman proclaimed to herself in a hushed voice.
Gracefully, she moved with purposeful elegance, gathering each item with a tender touch. Her fingers brushed against the weathered spines of books that had guided her through countless nights of study and solace. The gentle rustle of parchment whispered of secrets shared and dreams recorded. As she gathered her belongings into a weathered leather satchel, Evalise's gaze wandered briefly to the window, where the sun cast fleeting shadows upon the chamber floor. She carefully folded her clothing, each piece cherished and meticulously packed into the satchel. Her hands moved with care, as she prepared for the journey ahead. The satchel, worn from years of use, held not just garments but memories woven into its seams—a testament to the paths she had walked and the chapters she was now ready to turn.
With a final glance around the room, Evalise stood amidst echoes of the past and possibilities of the future. The air seemed to hold its breath as she shouldered her satchel, a gesture laden with resolve and quiet determination. Leaving the room, she carried with her the essence of Volgrad keep, stepping down the hall and out the entrance of the keep. A man, slightly taller than the De Tiri, stood patiently outside the keep, his stance relaxed yet attentive. As Evalise emerged, he greeted her with a warm smile, linking his arm with hers in a gesture of steadfast support and companionship. His presence offered a silent promise of solidarity, "Let me hold your satchel while we make our way to the stables, hm?" The man spoke in a soft tone, his voice carrying a gentle reassurance as he held his hand out to take the satchel from Evalise. His eyes met hers with understanding and warmth, a silent communication passing between them as he prepared to shoulder the burden of their belongings. With that said, she handed her satchel to him gently before making their way to the stables she was so acquainted with.
The pair entered the stables together, the atmosphere imbued with the familiar scent of hay and the comforting presence of horses. Evalise looked around with a sad smile, her silvery gaze meeting the eyes of each horse in turn. She whispered soft words of reassurance to them, a gentle promise that they would be okay even as she prepared to depart. Her hand brushed against the sleek coat of her own horse, Magnolia, a mare whose gentle spirit had carried her through countless journeys. As Evalise prepared to leave Magnolia she whispered to her, "We will meet again." Her silvery gaze lingered on Magnolia for a moment, a silent exchange passing between them a mixture of gratitude and reassurance.
Turning towards the man, she nodded with a small smile of readiness. Together, they walked out the stables and keep - towards the water where a small row-boat awaited them. Evalise approached the boat and climbed in carefully, finding her seat and settling in, her expression calm. The man stepped into the row-boat settling into position. Gripping the oars firmly, he began to row, the boat gently gliding away from the land. Evalise peered over her shoulder, her gaze lingering on the receding silhouette of the keep.
As they drifted farther and farther from the shore, a mix of emotions played across Evalise's features—a sense of nostalgia for what she was leaving behind. She turned her gaze forward once more, her heart buoyed by the promise of new horizons and her companion by her side. "Goodbye for now..." The De Tiri whispered to herself as they drifted away.
